INSTALLATION OF GOOGLE-CHROME ON REDHAT 7 / CENTOS 7

Google Chrome is a freeware browser which was developed by Google Inc.

In this tutorial, We are going to install the latest version of google chrome released by Google on Dec 2017.

Installation

We can install the latest version of google chrome using Yum with the google’s repository.

Step 1

First, We need to configure Local YUM repository using Google’s repo files:

Create a file called /etc/yum.repos.d/google-chrome.repo and copy the below lines of code to it.

#vi /etc/yum.repos.d/google-chrome.repo

[google-chrome]
name=google-chrome
baseurl=http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub

Next, We need to check the version of Google Chrome in the Repo we have just configured, Use the below command.

#yum info google-chrome-stable

From the output of above command, We can verify that the Repository has the latest version of Google Chrome to be installed.

Step 2

Once we are done with the configuration of the repository, We can proceed with the installation of Google Chrome browser.

Use the below command to install, Which will automatically install all the dependencies required.

#yum install google-chrome-stable

Final Step

Now, Installation is done. We can start working with the Latest version of Google Chrome installed on your machine.

Start the browser as a standard user:

#google-chrome &

You will see the Welcome page of the Google Chrome.

You have successfully installed the browser and start exploring.
